Is ChatGPT actually making us dumber?

In the early 20th century, IQs were on the rise in developed countries, known as the Flynn Effect. But since the 1990s, IQ levels have been declining, referred to as the inverse Flynn Effect.

Several factors are believed to contribute, including changes in education, parenting, and environmental factors.

Now, researchers suggest that AI chatbots like ChatGPT may be playing a role in this decline. ChatGPT is known for presenting incorrect information and encouraging people to rely on it for answers.

This overreliance on AI could reduce critical thinking and problem-solving skills, raising concerns about the impact on cognitive development and social interactions.

Researchers recommend fostering healthy skepticism, promoting reading and critical thinking, and allowing children to learn from their mistakes as potential solutions.

Since ChatGPT has only been launched a year we feel it’s a bit of a stretch to suggest the decline is due to our favorite chatbot but it will be interesting to see what happens in the next few years when adoption of Chatty G has increased… 🤔🤖

ChatGPT gives better advice than psychology experts

A study published in the journal Frontiers in Psychology suggests that ChatGPT, powered by Artificial Intelligence (AI), can provide more valuable advice than a professional columnist.

In the study, participants found ChatGPT's responses to be more balanced, complete, empathetic, helpful, and overall better compared to the advice given by a professional.

The research involved presenting 400 participants with a dilemma and providing responses from both ChatGPT and a professional columnist without disclosing their sources.

Surprisingly, about 75% of the participants preferred ChatGPT's responses. The study highlights the potential of AI like ChatGPT to offer valuable guidance and support in various situations, even surpassing human experts in some cases.

iPhone 15 and Pro Max users can now replace siri with ChatGPT

Users of the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max now have the opportunity to replace Siri with ChatGPT as their primary voice assistant. This can be done by following a straightforward process:

1. Download the ChatGPT app from the App Store and sign up for an OpenAI account if you haven't already.

2. Access your iPhone's Settings app.

3. Navigate to the 'Action Button' menu in iOS Settings.

4. Select the 'Shortcut' option.

5. Tap on "Choose a Shortcut" and choose ChatGPT from the list of supported apps.

6. Look for the option "Start voice conversations" in your Shortcuts.

7. Once set up, press and hold the Action Button to start talking to ChatGPT.

While ChatGPT offers voice conversation capabilities, it's important to note that it currently lacks certain features like making phone calls, taking notes, setting calendar appointments, or managing smart home devices, and it requires an internet connection to function.
