OpenAI's ChatGPT, backed by Microsoft, has introduced internet browsing capabilities, allowing users to access current information and news.

Previously, the chatbot's knowledge was based on data up to September 2021, rendering it unable to provide real-time information.

This new feature will roll out to all users soon. ChatGPT's ability to browse the internet is expected to make it a source of current news and information.

However, there are concerns about the accuracy and reliability of information provided by the chatbot, as it lacks the sourcing typically found in traditional news outlets. OpenAI has also faced regulatory scrutiny over potential risks related to generating false information.

The move reflects the ongoing challenge in the AI sector of balancing utility with safety and ethical concerns.

OpenAI is reportedly in discussions with renowned designer Jony Ive and SoftBank's Masayoshi Son to create an artificial intelligence device often referred to as the "iPhone of artificial intelligence."

While few details about the device's form have been disclosed, it could be a standalone smart speaker or headphones that interact with the ChatGPT AI.

Jony Ive, who previously worked at Apple and played a pivotal role in designing products like the iPhone and MacBook, is involved in this collaboration through his design company, LoveForm.

SoftBank has pledged over $1 billion to the project.

This initiative follows OpenAI's recent announcement that ChatGPT now has internet access and expanded capabilities, such as voice and image recognition.

Sam Altman, the founder of OpenAI, initially claimed that his company had achieved human-level artificial intelligence (AI), referring to artificial general intelligence (AGI). Intelligence that is at the level or above humans.

However, he later clarified on Reddit that this statement was meant as a humorous meme and that the achievement of AGI would not be announced in a Reddit comment.

This statement came shortly after OpenAI unveiled a significant update for ChatGPT, allowing it to process audio and visual information.

The Reddit post was made on the r/singularity forum, which discusses the technological singularity and the potential risks of advanced AI, including scenarios like the "Paperclip Maximiser" where an AI's seemingly harmless goals could lead to catastrophic outcomes.

OpenAI is actively working on AGI, aiming to ensure it benefits humanity while addressing the risks associated with its development.
