Recent AI avatar debates featuring Joe Biden and Donald Trump on Twitch offer a surreal glimpse into the future of political discourse. These digital spectacles signal AI's growing role in shaping politics.
In a thought-provoking piece for MIT Technology Review, AI experts discuss how AI, especially tools like ChatGPT, can churn out vast amounts of persuasive content—a boon for Internet-era propaganda. As AI technology advances, its potential to reshape the disinformation landscape grows.
As election season looms globally, ChatGPT and similar tools make propaganda production cheaper, enticing more countries to try election influence.
AI's accessibility also makes it a potent tool in cyber warfare. Bruce Schneier warns about persona-bots on social media, behaving normally most of the time but turning highly political sporadically. Military strategists worldwide are likely devising sophisticated tactics for election interference.
As elections approach, the consequences of AI's role remain uncertain but potentially significant.

For Chatty G (PT) its business as usual: good in good hands and very scary if used improperly! 🤖😬
The CEO of OpenAI, the brains behind ChatGPT, has entered the global debate on AI regulation. In a not-so-surprising twist, Sam Altman acknowledges that getting this regulation stuff right can be tricky. But, hey, it's important and not something to run from in fear, he says.
Around the world, governments are gearing up to regulate AI. Even Britain is throwing a grand summit in November to chat about AI safety. The goal? Figuring out how to handle the wild beast that is AI and crafting some rules to keep it in check.
Sam Altman, OpenAI's head honcho (backed by Microsoft, no less), strolled into Taipei with some thoughts. He isn't losing sleep over governments going all "Big Brother" on AI, but he does give a nod to the possibility. What really keeps him up at night? Under-regulation. Yep, he's saying that while some in his industry bash regulations, they secretly want them – at least for the superpowerful AI systems.
You know, the ones that are like 10,000 times smarter than GPT4 or as clever as our whole human civilization. Those bad boys, Altman says, probably deserve some rulebook treatment. It's a fine balancing act, this AI regulation business.

British officials are expressing growing concerns about the potential misuse of artificial intelligence (AI) for causing mass destruction by criminals or terrorists after researchers found ChatGPT was able to lie to a human achieve a certain goal!
These concerns will be a central topic at a forthcoming AI safety summit in November. The UK is seeking to build a consensus among world leaders to issue a joint statement warning of the dangers posed by rogue actors leveraging AI to cause large-scale harm.
Specifically, concerns involve the misuse of AI for bioweapons or cyber-attacks and the development of advanced systems that may escape human control.
The Deputy Prime Minister, Oliver Dowden, recently emphasized the need for a new form of multilateralism to address these challenges, given the significant influence of tech companies and non-state actors in the AI domain. The summit aims to draw attention to existential risks related to AI, such as the emergence of "artificial general intelligence" (AGI), which could autonomously perform tasks at or above human levels.
While some critics argue that AGI risks are overstated, proponents emphasize the need to address potential biosecurity and autonomous weapons threats associated with AI.
